Seargin is looking for a Junior Software Engineer

The main tasks for the Junior Software Engineer will be:
- Learning the codebase and databases currently used in the investment process and collaborating with the quantitative research team to understand systems, processes, and requirements and learn business needs
- Supporting internal portfolio management administrative application and providing production system support, doing troubleshooting, and working on bug fixes together with other technology teams
- Building automation & tools to improve efficiency/scalability of our operation process and facilitate the quantitative research activities
- Designing, and developing software products used in local, networked, cloud-based, or Internet environments. Completing documentation and procedures for installation and maintenance. Performing application coding and programming that is consistent with architecture principles, standards, methodologies, and technology organization's best practices
- Contributing to general system maintenance and upgrades (server refresh, database upgrades, etc.). Liaising with other internal IT teams to release code changes and as needed to resolve system / technical issues for the team. May from time to time also liaise with other internal teams like the Risk and Compliance teams
- Providing end to end support from documenting business requirements, programming, QA testing the code, code review, release, to production support
The Candidate should have:
- Strong university background in Computer Science, or a related quantitative discipline with at least Bachelor’s degree
- Broad knowledge of coding languages including for instance ASP.Net, C#, Python, Perl, and web development including DevExpress. Proficiency in SQL (including stored procedures)
- Ability to:
- Actively pursue opportunities for learning and self-development

- React to urgent requests on short notice when opportunities come with rapidly changing markets
- Response within short turn-around time with high-quality work
- Being well organized
- 20% overlap with California work hours at the time of hire. (may change at manager’s discretion)
- Flexibility to work hours given the need to work with Singapore and US offices
- Proven advanced knowledge and application of system models, data models, schemas, database structures, database design, database theory, and various diagramming techniques
- Proven high proficiency across multiple programming languages, operating systems, techniques, structures, and principles
- Proven broad knowledge of Relational / Object-Oriented database technologies
- Team-oriented, detail-oriented, efficient, and solution-oriented attitude
- Superb analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Flexibility and ability to work independently and in a team
- Great English skills (written and spoken)
It would be a plus if the Candidate had:
- Knowledge of Bloomberg, Charles River is a plus but not required. Interest in the financial market is a plus.
