As part of a global Enterprise Resource Planning Program the Pharmaceutical Division of an international corporation implemented SAP R/3 and BW as their new ERP platform.
This program consisted of 39 Roll-Outs to local country subsidiaries based on a global template and was deployed in less than 4 years from the initial planning.
Today more than 10.000 users are working in eight regional system environments (each consists of a development, quality assurance/ test and production system).
Central financial and logistics processes are integrated across all pharmaceutical subsidiaries and benefit from the following program results:
Standardization and automation was achieved through redesign of the logistics processes resulting in global transparency as well as smooth Supply Chain processes
Standardization of the financial system environment together with a related reporting structure led to optimized and efficient group reporting based on a consistent source of data
A future-oriented, reliable system landscape was established by using standardized software
Complexity and maintenance cost of the IT environment was reduced
Compliance with external (e.g. SOX, FDA) as well as internal regulations were based on validated processes and applications
The program started with a template design phase where unified core processes and rules, related to the organizational structure and data, were defined.
The template design was supported by business experts and IT representatives working together with a team of highly experienced SAP consultants. The defined business processes and supporting ERP standards became the foundation for process harmonization during the deployment to the company’s subsidiaries.
This foundation ensured:
Subsidiaries across all countries would be working within unified business processes
Exchange of data between companies would be consistent
Regional and global reporting would be based on identical data structures
Common rules and definitions can be summarized and consolidated without issue
All conceptual and application changes would be managed centrally and rolled out to the subsidiaries
The Global Template solution was implemented for chemical production sites, pharmaceutical production sites and sales oriented subsidiaries.
A global reporting structure was implemented in SAP Business Warehouse. Data from local SAP applications was transferred and consolidated into six regional Business Warehouse clients.
The global Business Warehouse receives its data from the regional clients to generate global reports. Based on this IT-architecture, it was possible to substantially reduce the time and effort needed for month- and year-end reporting.
In parallel a solution to harmonize product master data was developed and implemented using SAP. As a result of implementing central organizational units and a central SAP application, it became possible to maintain relevant master data centrally and automatically distribute it to all subsidiaries without manual intervention.
The Roll-Out Phase started with a pilot installation including one production site and one retail location. Within a very short periodof time following the successful pilot go-live, the framework for parallel Rollouts was established. This framework was used to simultaneously deploy the system in eight different regions (Europe, Asia, North and South America).
This program included the SAP deployment to 48 countries and all roll-outs were completed within four years.
Seargin was one of three consulting and implementation partners for this ERP program
During the template design phase the contributions of Seargin specialists together with business experts were crucial for the definition of processes and organizational structure. Seargin also contributed significantly to the planning of the program itself
The Pilot project was managed and supported intensively by Seargin
Seargin was engaged in multiple Project and Integration Management roles responsible for the roll-out to the various production sites and sales subsidiaries
Seargin was responsible for the design of the Business Warehouse Architecture as well as for the implementation of the processes and data structures contained within the Business Warehouse Application
